If you’ve never had a scone, I am glad you are here! Scones are one of my favorite foods, but I only started eating them within the last five years.

If you love the flaky goodness of a biscuit with a little bit of crunch on the outside, but you wish for something sweeter like a blueberry muffin, then scones are exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Blueberry scones are my absolute favorite and maybe I’ll make a version to share here someday, but today I’m sharing an equally lovely apple cinnamon scone.

This recipe packed with apples and cinnamon will produce a flaky, but soft scone that will have you reaching for just…one…more.

While most apple cinnamon scone recipes out there just use a bit of cinnamon in the batter, I decided to add cinnamon chips for a twist.

Cinnamon chips are found in the baking aisle next to the chocolate chips and are sweetened morsels packed with cinnamon.

If you can’t find them anywhere, you can try ordering them online (HERE) or leave them out of the recipe. Just increase the diced apples by a 1/4 cup.

If you’re stopping by here while searching for recipes, you may not know that the recipes here are all inspired by books! This particular recipe was created after reading Picnic in Someday Valley.

If you love small town romances (think Hallmark) with a dose of mystery mixed in, then you’ll love this book. Check out more about this book HERE!

This recipe for Apple Cinnamon Scones combines apples, cinnamon chips, flaky dough, and rich vanilla icing for a delectable treat!

Are you a fan of Hallmark Movies & Mysteries? How about Hallmark romances? If so, then you’ll love this new book from the Honey Creek Series by Jodi Thomas.

Picnic in Someday Valley is the second book in the Honey Creek series and combines just the right about of mystery and romance.

Picnic in Someday Valley

Set in a small town with a cast of lovable, but quirky characters, Picnic in Someday Valley offers exactly what you love about Hallmark. With an extra dose of the romance (think PG-13 verses PG), but nothing too erotic, Thomas delivers a novel with several story lines that work together.

If you haven’t checked out the first book in the series, you can see my post on that book HERE. In fact, I recommend you read it first because so many of the characters in the first book return for the second.

And, who doesn’t love that?

I usually don’t do this, but I did want to provide a trigger warning for some readers. The main conflict in this novel arises from a serial rapist on the loose. That said, Thomas only writes books with happily ever after’s and this is no different!

If you are looking for book club food ideas and discussion questions for Picnic in Someday Valley, keep reading!

Do you love small town romances? If so, then you’ll love Breakfast at the Honey Creek Cafe by Jodi Thomas. The novel is the first in a new series by Jodi Thomas, who, if you don’t know, is the queen of Texas romance.

Her books, set in Texas, range from historical to contemporary, from series to stand alone books. While she primarily writes romance, several of her books also lean towards women’s fiction like The Widows of Wichita County and The Little Teashop on Main. She’s won three RITAs for her romance books, which led to her induction into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame (with only 17 other romance writers!).

This post is the beginning of a new series of posts I have decided to create for Book Club Bites featuring The Classics. I’ve had Little Women on my re-read list for a while and with the new movie coming out this winter, I decided it was the perfect start for this series.

Little Women
by Louisa May Alcott

If you don’t know much about Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women, I suggest you take some time and read a little about her (even if it’s just her wikipedia page).

Louisa May Alcott led a fascinating life. She was raised by her parents among transcendentalists, including many famous thinkers of the time such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

She grew up to be an abolitionist and a feminist. In fact, her family helped Frederick Douglass and others during their work in the underground railroad. Despite all of this adventure, Little Women is based on what Louisa held closest to her heart–her own sisters and her mother. Her three sisters inspired the characters Meg, Amy, and Beth, and Jo was based loosely upon her own life and character.

Wow. This book. Gail Honeyman, you are amazing. This book dealt with so many HEAVY topics with humor and grace. That’s probably why this was featured for Reese’s Book Club. Rumor has it that Reese (Witherspoon) is planning on making it into a major motion picture soon!

In the beginning, I think it’s safe to say that Eleanor Oliphant is not a very likeable character, but, by the end, I was cheering loudly for her. What a triumphant character and novel. If your book club hasn’t read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, I highly recommend it. It will surprise you and leave you smiling.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

I was actually able to listen to it on audiobook, which was fantastic. I loved listening to Cathleen McCarron’s Scottish accent. She also nailed Eleanor’s sarcasm and the bone-chilling Mummy voice. If you’re able to, I recommend listening to it.

If your book club is reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, I’ve created some book club questions and a recipe, so if you’re looking for food ideas and more, keep reading!
