In this post, I’m going to share 14 Christmas Romance Novels for Hallmark Fans. I hope you enjoy this list of delightful holiday-themed finds for the Hallmark lover and reader in your life and buy a couple for yourself while you’re at it.

Let’s start with this factoid–Did you know that Hallmark has it’s own publishing company? That’s right, the eponymous Channel has it’s own line of books.

Some of the books have been Hallmark movies and may be familiar, but several are new, fresh, and ready to be devoured by YOU.

AND…AND!…Every book includes a companion recipe in the back that you can make as you enjoy the book! That just makes me smile.

Now, let’s take a look at the holiday-themed books currently available from Hallmark Publishing. The books below are organized by trope, so find your favorite and pick one or three books to enjoy this holiday season!

14 Christmas Romance Novels for Hallmark Fans by Trope

Return Home/Protect Home/Inherit Home

I grouped these three together because they are essentially twists on the same trope. Someone–whether it’s the antagonist or protagonist–is either returning to a long-lost home, protecting their home from a newcomer, or inheriting a home (usually one they don’t initially want).

This is by far the largest group from Hallmark Publishing. It’s one that I love and, apparently, so does everyone else. This trope isn’t just about finding love, it’s about finding an entire community. Who doesn’t want that?

Let’s start with the books you’ll recognize from their movie counterparts.

Christmas in Evergreen

This is actually a series of books by Nancy Naigle, who was asked to write the novelization of the movies Christmas in Evergreen and Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa. Nancy writes lots of Christmas romance outside of just these two books. Be sure to check her out.

A quick summary for Christmas in Evergreen from Amazon: “A snowy small town.A snow globe that grants wishes.A love that’s meant to be. Evergreen, Vermont is about to be in the rearview mirror of Allie Shaw’s vintage red pickup truck. It’s hard to say goodbye to her small town and her veterinarian practice, but she’s moving to Washington D.C., where her big-city-loving boyfriend lives. Ever since Ryan Bellamy’s wife died, he hardly knows how to celebrate Christmas. He’s decided to take his daughter Zoe to Florida, and Evergreen is just a quick stop on the way to the airport. While they’re there, Zoe partakes in a local tradition, making a Christmas wish on the snow globe at the town diner. But neither Allie’s nor Ryan’s Christmas goes as planned. A quick summary for Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa from Amazon: ” Return to Evergreen,the town where Christmas wishes come true…But only if you know what your heart really wants. When Lisa takes a last-minute Christmas trip to her hometown of Evergreen, she finds that the historic general store has closed. The place was a beloved local tradition, and she decides to use her skills as a professional retail designer to bring it back to its former glory. She charms a local contractor, Kevin, into working with her, and the pair find themselves facing one surprise after another.”

Christmas in Homestead

If you liked the Christmas in Homestead movie by Hallmark, you’ll love the book which expands the story with more detail and a more satisfying ending.

A quick summary from Amazon: “Christmas is almost here, but Jessica has other things on her mind. Being the producer as well as the star of her new movie is a big challenge, and her co-star ex-boyfriend doesn’t seem to be quite over her. Still, she has the project carefully planned out, and the location is perfect: Homestead, Iowa. Matt, the mayor of Homestead, owns the inn where Jessica and her co-star are staying. He barely knows who Jessica is, even though his young daughter, Sophie, is one of her best fans. Christmas became even more important to Matt after his wife passed away, and he isn’t happy about the Hollywood production interfering with the community’s traditions. After Jessica makes more than one faux pas in her first encounter with Matt, she tries to prove that she isn’t just a Hollywood stereotype. Gradually, she grows enamored with Homestead…and with him, which was definitely not part of her plans. Matt’s falling for her, too, but their two worlds clash. Can an innkeeper and an A-list actress really hope for a romantic future together?”

The Christmas Company

Now, let’s look at books that Hallmark has not yet made into movies. This book is a modern-day take on the Scrooge character. It looks like a fantastic set up. Check it out!

A quick summary from Amazon: “The small town of Miller’s Point is known across the country for their annual Dickensian Christmas festival. When the celebration is threatened by Clark Woodward, a miserly, big-city businessman, Kate Buckner steps up to save her hometown, their traditions, and her favorite holiday. But, along the way, she realizes that the man she’s trying to protect her town from might need some rescuing of his own. With a lot of heart and a little Christmas magic, Kate is convinced she can teach Clark to love her favorite holiday. But can such different people learn to open up and love each other?”

A Down Home Christmas

This is another coming home trope, but this book features a country music star coming home to convince his aunt to move to a retirement home. Beyond that, it takes place in a town appropriately named Charming, Mississippi, and there’s plenty of Southern charm. It has yet to be made into a film, but maybe soon!

A quick summary from Amazon: “Country music star Kris Trabeau heads to Charming, Mississippi, to convince his aging aunt to sell her farm and move into a nice retirement community. She’s not having it, and she enlists her neighbor Tory Odom to help her remind Kris why the farm means so much…especially at Christmas. After being dumped by her longtime boyfriend, Tory’s not feeling the holiday spirit. Still, she agrees to co-chair a children’s concert and silent auction to benefit the after-school center where she volunteers. As Kris helps her with the concert and spends time with the kids, the attraction between them becomes harder and harder to ignore. Can he trade spotlights and city lights for the place where the music began?”

Wrapped Up in Christmas

This next book is hot off of the Hallmark Publishing press and brand new for the season. The trope is more of a finding home trope with a military and mistaken identity twist. If you have ever seen the classic Hallmark movie, The Christmas Card, the premise is much the same. (If you haven’t seen it, PLEASE do yourself a favor and watch it!) Basically, a soldier receives a care package that gives him hope during his darkest days and sets out to find the person who sent it. Wrapped Up in Christmas is yet to be a movie, so enjoy the book now!

A quick summary of Wrapped Up in Christmas from Amazon: “Sarah Smith in Pine Hill, Kentucky has had her heart broken in the past. She pours herself into her work at church and into special projects―like making a quilt for a wounded warrior. Bodie Lewis is lost. All he’s ever wanted was his career as an Army Ranger, but he was injured in an explosion that killed his brothers in arms. In the hospital, he receives a handmade quilt. Later, he sets out on his final mission: to find and thank its maker. Bodie expected Sarah to be an elderly lady, not a lovely young woman. When she mistakes him for a handyman, he doesn’t immediately set her straight. Instead, he sets about repairing the home she’s turning into a bed and breakfast. Sarah’s presence and the spirit of the small town bring Bodie something he thought he’d left far behind on the battlefield: hope.”

At the Heart of Christmas

This book follows the inherited home trope. However, the main character wants to keep the home, not sell it. But, the man she calls upon to help her make it viable has his own secret and it may disrupt her plans.

A quick summary from Amazon: “Quinn has inherited the farm and workshop that once housed the famous Hardwick Ornament Company. She invests everything in reopening her family’s business and hires glass artist Nolan Vesser, whose family used to design ornaments for hers, to work his creative magic. After an accident burned Nolan’s studio to the ground, he thought he’d lost everything. But when he looked in his safety deposit box for his renter’s insurance, he came across an overlooked piece of paper that changed everything. As Nolan spends time with Quinn, she sparks his artistic inspiration. But when she learns about his secret, can their new romance survive?”

Cooking

This was a VERY popular trope on the Hallmark Channel a couple of years ago. If you’ll notice, they choose one trope and hit it big every year. However, as far as Hallmark Publishing goes, there is only one book in this category.

The Secret Ingredient

This is another Nancy Naigle book, so you can’t go wrong. Plus it feature a potbellied pig named Gray and a recipe for Honey Almond Cake with Berries and Mascarpone Crème Fraiche. Sounds delicious! Note: This is more “winter” romance than Christmas-themed.

A quick summary from Amazon: “Years ago, Kelly McIntyre and Andrew York were engaged and dreaming of opening a restaurant together. Then he chose an opportunity to study in Paris over the small-town life they’d planned, and their romance came to a bittersweet end. But Kelly’s doing fine. She’s not only the owner of a potbellied pig named Gray, but also of her own bakery. Business is good―so good that she’s invited to compete in a Valentine’s Day bake-off. As she prepares for the contest, she tries not to get distracted by Andrew’s visit to town. When Andrew sees Kelly, it stirs up his old feelings. Time Travel/Forgotten Identity

I lumped these two together because they are similar and sometimes paired. This is another Hallmark favorite and there are several titles in this category. Let’s start with the titles that already have movie counterparts.

Journey Back to Christmas

This book is the novelization of the Journey Back to Christmas movie, which starred Candace Cameron Bure. It’s about a grieving war widow who gets caught in time travel and finds renewed hope for life.

A quick summary from Amazon: “WWII is finally over, but Hanna’s husband, Chet, didn’t return home. She puts on a brave smile during the day while nursing her hospital patients, but at night, she grieves the loss of her love. Then the Christmas Comet appears for the first time in over seventy years, and Hanna’s caught in a snowstorm and knocked unconscious. She wakes up in modern times, and much to her confusion, her small town has changed. A local cop takes pity on her and invites her to stay with his family over the holiday. A Heavenly Christmas

This book is another novelization of the Hallmark film of the same name, which starred Kristin Davis. It’s time travel with a twist as the main character has died and wakes as a Christmas Angel. If she completes her Christmas mission, she just might get another chance at life.

  A quick summary from Amazon: ” Eve is a workaholic. Yeah, it may be Christmastime, but she won’t let that distract her from making partner at her financial firm. Even if that means her family and her personal life get pushed to the side…again. Then Eve slips on a patch of icy sidewalk, hits her head, and wakes up in Heaven. She finds herself in training as a Christmas angel. Ironic, since she hasn’t cared about the holiday in years. Still, Eve sets out to do the best she can at her new job. With the guidance of her angel mentor, she’ll answer a little girl’s prayer for her uncle Max to find happiness again. The assignment turns out to be far more complicated than she expected. What’s more, Eve finds herself falling for Max—hard. Only the true meaning of Christmas and family can help Eve find hope for Max…and for herself.”

A Christmas to Remember

This is the last novelization of a Hallmark movie that I’ll share in this post. It is based on A Christmas to Remember movie, which deals with the forgotten identity trope. There is a twist, the woman with amnesia is a famous TV star.

A quick summary from Amazon: “Jennifer needs a break. The perfectionist TV star heads to a mountain retreat for a restful, relaxing holiday. But when she gets caught in a blizzard and crashes her car, Jennifer is left with more than a wreck; she’s left with amnesia. John, a small-town veterinarian and single dad, finds the confused Jennifer wandering on the road. He’s used to taking care of others; he’s built for this. When he takes her in, he and his children give her more than shelter…they try to help her figure out who she is. As Jennifer and John make new memories, their connection to one another grows. But how can they even think about romance when they don’t know her true identity?”

A Timeless Christmas

Now, I’ll share books by Hallmark Publishing that have not yet been featured as films. (THIS IS NOW A MOVIE!) This novel is a time travel novel in which the male love interest is transported to present day from the early 1900s. This is a twist on the usual female love interest being transported and it features a larger time spread than I’ve seen from Hallmark (Journey Back to Christmas is the largest I remember, featuring WWII era).

A quick summary from Amazon: “Megan Turner is in love with the past. As a tour guide at a beautiful historic mansion, she tells visitors about its original owner, Charles Whitley. An inventor and businessman in the early 1900s, he rose from poverty to wealth…only to disappear without a trace. Charles was always intrigued by the future. He just never expected to go there. But when he repairs a mysterious clock he bought on his travels, he’s transported to the twenty-first century, with his home decorated for Christmas and overrun by strangers. Charles is determined to find a way back to his own era, especially when he learns about what happened after he left. But as Megan introduces him to the wonders of smartphones, pizza, and modern holiday traditions, they both feel a once-in-a-lifetime connection. Could it be that, somewhere in time, they belong together?”

An Unforgettable Christmas

This novel features the forgotten identity trope. In it, the male love interest loses his memory, but there’s a twist. He’s the female love interest’s not-so-nice boss. As she nurses him back to health, they share the holidays and much more.

A quick summary from Amazon: “Angie Lopez, a widowed mom, works hard at Singleton’s Jewelers. Sam Singleton, her often-irritating boss, hardly does anything besides work. He doesn’t spend time with friends and family, even around the holidays. That’s why Angie’s the one who winds up taking care of him when a head injury leaves him with amnesia. As Sam attempts to remember who he is, he learns about the luxurious but empty life he leads…and he’s not impressed. Meanwhile, Angie sees a new side of him as he shares Christmas traditions with her, her son Pepe, and her extended family. Angie shares touching, emotional moments with Sam. But if he gets his memories back, what will happen to her heart?”

Royal

And, now to our last trope…the commoner falls in love with a royal or vice versa. Today I’ll share the only novel from Hallmark Publishing for this trope. While I’m not the biggest fan of this trope–I like to watch more “realistic” romances (oh wait…Meghan Markle…)–I know that many people LOVE the royal trope.

A Royal Christmas Wish

This is a novel with royal tropes and a humorous Cinderella twist. The male love interest is a Prince, but the female love interest is a klutz. The idea of being a princess makes her sweat, but maybe not the idea of just pretending. So, she takes the offer of one wish and uses it to marry her Prince. Like Cinderella, she only has until the stroke of midnight on Christmas until she turns back into a commoner, if that’s what she still wants.

More details from Amazon: “Jenny knows she isn’t the princess type. Sure, she’s friendly and caring, but with her clumsiness and lack of self-confidence, glass slippers would only make her trip. When Dom, the cute guy she runs into in the park, turns out to be the prince of San Noelle, she figures he must not be her happy ever after. But a mysterious countess grants Jenny’s one wish, and she finds herself married to this handsome prince! Unfortunately, at the stroke of midnight on Christmas night, her life will go back to normal.
